From the first meeting with the Young Fathers at their studio in Leith, a rocking horse stood proudly in the corner of the room. The idea for this music video revolves around the way in which we could incorporate this into the concept. The horse quickly became its own character and the catalyst to the way in which we pieced together 3 iconic scenes. The first scene features Alloy immersed within a blacked out studio lit by an isolated blue light. He sits alone on the rocking horse, the pair framed within the space representative of the isolation felt from the world internally. Working with the main themes of anxiety driven by desire this space compresses these emotions through the first verse. As the song progresses the sense of animal instinctual repression builds within Alloy. The secondary scenes work with the aspirational fantasy of escaping that space, in turn entering a new world where the fantasy becomes reality. The rocking horse and Alloy are one, the suppressed and trapped body of what they soon become. The release and triumph of becoming transported into an open expansive space echo within the many metaphors found within the sea. The folk law of the white horses that crash to shore throw Alloy into his most representative identity, becoming the horse hero’d by the infinite horizon. “If wishes were horses, than beggars would ride” frames the piece, playing into the dual reality of how fantasy drives home an escapism Alloy desires throughout the piece.
Undeniably one of the most exciting and creatively charged shoots to date, working with the dynamic trio Young Fathers. Massive thank you to all those that made this vision a reality. With special thanks to Freak Films for allowing us to use their facilities and guidance, my incredible crew who worked above and beyond and my mother for her support throughout.

Sedna. A woman thrown from a boat and abandoned at sea by her father. Fingers cut from the boat in her final reach for help. He watches her drown to the ocean floor, her fingertips becoming the mammals and creatures within the sea. She is reborn into a current filled womb. Her power unparalleled. The men seeking ritualistic healing. Her rage masked by desire.

SAKIMA and I met in 2009 whilst studying choreography, and struck up a long-term collaboration working on various projects including music, film, and live performance art. The latest piece from us is an audial-visual project that is a conceptual extension of SAKIMA’s upcoming debut EP (to be released by U.S. label, Moving Castle, in spring 2017). Mining the lyrical themes within the EP, we explores notions of the cult of self and internal stresses as a result of contemporary social media pressures, as well as themes ranging from sexuality to self-awareness. The piece is comprised of four snapshot films to accompany each song on the EP, set in the Arcadian and theatrical backdrop of Torridon Estate, Scotland.

DIRECTOR / PRODUCTION.
I remember hearing of the first ideas of this project for my good friend James Strong, Creative Director of Great Brink. From the very get go it championed a very imaginative and ambitious concept, one which would find a great home at Scotlands beautiful Blair Athol Distillery, Pitlochry.
James's idea to take the last copper covered mash tun from Clynelish Distillery and transform it on a new journey and creative process to become a bar was wonderful.
Throughout this process I have created a film to champion the craft and the profound attention to detail in creating such a piece of bespoke design. Its been an incredible dedication from the people involved from concept to creation and a pleasure to become part of throughout the project.
With a minimal kit and a lot of time spent on the road I created this piece. Congratulations to the the team!
